Frequently Asked Questions
What is BDP?
BDP is an acronym for the Bayanihan Development Project, which is sponsored by the Bayanihan Seventh-day Adventist Church and Community Center of New York.
Who are the Seventh-Day Adventists?
Seventh-day Adventists are Christians who believe in the second coming of Jesus Christ and keep the seventh-day Sabbath according to the Holy Bible. We are well known for operating the second largest parochial school system in the world as well as our strong health ministry, operating numerous hospitals and clinics in six continents. You can learn more about us at www.adventist.org.
Are you associated with the Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses?
No. We respect them but we cannot agree with some of their teachings.
Where are you located?
We are in Long Island City located in the southwest corner of Queens, just across the bridge from Midtown Manhattan. Our address is 39-49 29th Street, Long Island City, New York, 11101.
What do you do?
The Bayanihan church and community center takes pride in serving the community. From conducting healthy cooking classes to singing in nursing homes, service is embedded in us and we are open to any programs/activities you request from us.
What are you building?
It is a Bayanihan Complex with a community center on the first floor, a church on the second floor and a fellowship hall in the basement.
Why should I help Bayanihan?
The area we serve in Long Island City needs major improvement. Many residents are unemployed and are on government welfare. As much as we have tried our best to serve the community, our efforts have been limited by the lack of facilities in our present building.
How can I help?
In our “One Million People for One Million Bricks” campaign, everyone can have a part. Besides buying a brick, you can help by mainly spreading the word to your friends and relatives.
How can I donate a brick?
Donating has never been easy. To contribute your brick, simply click here to access our donation section. Donations can be made through many options to make it as convenient for you as possible.
How much of the funds go toward the building project?
Since all of our staff are volunteers, 95% of all donations go towards the building itself while 5% goes towards marketing supplies, furniture, and building amenities.
How much should I give?
That’s really up to you, any brick will do.
Do I get a receipt for my brick?
All donations over $2 are eligible for receipt. If ever you do not receive a receipt from your donation, please click here and we will fix the problem in 1-2 business days!
Are my donations tax-deductible?
Yes! All donations are tax deductible since we are a certified non-profit organization.
Are you certified to collect donations from the public?
Yes! We are a 501(c)(3) organization and our payment options are verified by Paypal and McAfee!
What do I get in return?
Once you donate your brick, we will keep a record and reward you with a brick certificate once the campaign is finished. More than this is the feeling that you get when you know that you are helping people for generations to come!
How long is this fundraising campaign?
Our fundraising campaign will continue until we reach 1 million bricks. So spread the word, because the sooner the better.
Can we see the building when it’s completed?
